Female vote favours Obama
As Barack Obama wins the race for the White House, beginning his second term as US President, national exit polls show that more women voted for him than for his competitor.
54 per cent of women chose to re-elect the President, while 44 per cent voted for Mitt Romney.
The gender gap was an issue for Romney in his campaign, but polls showed he had been shrinking the gap in the last weeks before the election.
Romney did gain more votes from men however, receiving 53 per cent of cast votes from the male electorate to 45 per cent.
